Edward John Audoire

Alderney born Edward John Audoire appears, aged 8, in the 1891 census, living in Alderney with his parents, grandparents and a large extended family. By 1901 he had moved to Guernsey where he lived in St Martin's with his sister and her family and worked as a carter.

He enlisted (re-enlisted?) in the Royal Engineers on 31 May 1915 and went on active service later that year. According to his medal index card he first served in Russia, and was entitled to the three standard Service medals. As a Corporal in 455 Field Company he was wounded on 28 April 1917 but stayed with his unit. He was wounded again on 19 May of the same year and again remained on duty. He was eventually demobilised and placed on reserve in 1919.
