Thomas Jury Butler

166th Fortress Coy, Royal Engineers

 

 

His father William was with the Royal Marines as was his father before him (Crimea, Syria and New Zealand) and possibly his father before him. Thomas' grandfather on his mother's side was also Royal marines

Born in 1888 at Wimbledon. Husband of Louisa Elizabeth Butler. Resident at Marconi Cottage, Longy, Alderney

 


Enlisted in The East Surrey Regiment in 1906, served in India before being invalided home in 1908 to Netley as medically unfit. He re-attested in Guernsey in 1917 and was posted to the 166th Fortress Company. Transferred to a RE reserve company at Newark, he was sent to Netley Hospital on 12/1/1918 for transfer to Z Reserve on 21/01/1919.
