Son of Frank Henry and Annie Davenport Layard, of Colombo, Ceylon.

Killed in action, aged 20 years.

Frank Layard won his Military Cross during fighting at Arras in April 1917

"2nd Lieut. Frank Stanley Layard, Border Regiment. He commanded a patrol of bombers on reconnaissance, which came under heavy fire. In spite of several casualties, he completed his task and brought back most valuable information. The success of the enterprise was entirely due to his own personal courage and determination."
