Julius William Newberry was a skilled carpenter in HMS CALLIOPE when the hurricane took place in the Bay of Apia, Samoa Islands on 16th March, 1889. He was later commissioned and died in service as Lieutenant (shipwright) in 1918. Served nearly 38 years in the R.N.
