NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 18 October 1918

Roll of Honour. It is with deep regret we state that Mrs Allen of 3 Frederick Place, Hilary Street, has received information that her husband, Private William Richard Allen of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in action in France on 30 September. The deceased soldier was an Englishman and joined up in Nottingham. He was stationed here with the 4th Battalion South Staffordshires and was most of the time employed as a telephone operator in the District Office. He was only 22 at the time of his death. We tender the widow and other members of the family our sincere condolences.
