Alfred (Fred) Alexandre Bastard was born in St John's Manor, Jersey, as his father was the Foreman.

He changed his name to Basford in Canada. He is commemorated also on the St Martin's Memorial, Jersey.

His brother, Ernest Bastard, is listed on the Jersey Roll of Service.
