NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 31 May 1916

Relatives of Private Carreau Wanted. A recent War Office list of balances due to next-of-kin of deceased soldiers contains the following "Carreau, Private J, 2nd Devonshire Regiment £15.9s.0d." This was noticed by Private A Buesnel of 21st Middlesex Regiment who writes to us stating that Private Carreau was killed in action last year. They were playmates at the Home for Boys and Private Buesnel thinks that the deceased soldier's brother is still in the Island, though his parents are believed to be dead. Private Carreau enlisted in the Devons whilst they were in Jersey and no doubt his brother will come forward to claim the amount due to him.
