NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 22 June 1918

Roll of Honour. The number of Muratti footballers who have been called upon to make the supreme sacrifice recently is quite a large one, and to this has to be added the name of Sammy Cartwright, one of the most popular and clever footballers the Island has seen. He joined up early in the war and had been in France 3 years, for the larger portion of the time as a Sergeant in the Royal Engineers. Whilst on leave last Boxing Day he married at Southsea a local lady, Miss West, who will have the full sympathy of all our readers and especially the lovers of soccer who always found in Sammy Cartwright a trustworthy friend, a cheerful comrade and a thorough good sportsman.
