Killed in action, aged 38 years

NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Tuesday 8 October 1918

Roll of Honour. The many local friends and acquaintances of Company Sergeant Major J F Charles of the Devon Regiment will regret to learn that he was killed in action on 28 September last by shell fire. The deceased Sergeant Major was in his 38th year and will be remembered as a popular member of the permanent staff RMIJ, who rejoined his Regiment some time after the outbreak of war. He leaves a widow, nee Miss Lucy Le Bredonchelle, with children to mourn his loss. The family have received a most touching letter of condolence from the Commanding Officer who regarded the deceased as a most trustworthy, gallant and efficient soldier. We tender the bereaved our sincere condolences.
