NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 29 July 1916

Roll of Honour. We regret to learn than Mrs Chick of 40 Poonah Road has received official intimation that her husband, Sapper E Chick of the Royal Engineers, was killed in action on 24 July. The Sapper was stationed in the Island with the 1st Devons as Signaller and left Jersey for the Front with that Battalion, later transferring to the Royal Engineers. He was in the Island on leave last November. A comrade of the late Sapper, in writing to the widow, states that the deceased was a brave man and a "thorough good soldier" who will be greatly missed. Fortunately death was instantaneous. We offer our sincere sympathy to the widow who lost her brother on Tuesday last and whose father died only a few months ago.
