NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 19 August 1918

Roll of Honour. The many friends and acquaintances of Private Charles Coles of the Hampshire Regiment will regret to learn that his mother, who resides at 35 Belmont Road, has received news that the soldier died on 14 August at Basra from the effects of the heat. The deceased soldier will be remembered as a driver for Mrs Curwood and whilst in the employ of the latter, by his unfailing courtesy, he made many friends. He had been in the Forces a little over 12 months and had been most of that period in the East. To the mother, who has another son, a Sergeant in the Royal Irish Rifles a prisoner of war in Germany, we tender our heartfelt condolences.
