NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 18 March 1918

Roll of Honour. It is with deep regret we chronicle the death which took place in action on 5 February of Sapper James Frederick Coombs of the Canadian Engineers. The deceased gallant soldier, who was in his 29th year, was the youngest son of Mr & Mrs G Coombs of 29 Chevalier Road and left for the land of the Maple some years back. He joined up in the early days of the war and had been in France for some time. We tender the bereaved family our sincere sympathy.
