1890 July 31st Herbert Henry was born at Prospect Farm St. Peter, the 7th child and 3rd son of John George Cudlipp and Louisa, née Romeril. (eldest son John died in 1899, aged 13)
1890 September 14 Baptised possibly at Philadelphie methodist at St. Peter. Went to church in morning (father) and chapel in the afternoon (mother)
Went to St. Peter's school.
1901 Moved to The Limes, Mont à l'abbé.
Probably moved to St Marks school. Very clever, wanted to be a dentist. Was a good singer.
Went to St. John's Congregational church, sang in choir,
1907 Attended sister (Louisa) Lulu's wedding to Harold White
1912 Visited by cousin Joseph from America (diary?

Before the war – met at church and was engaged to Laura Vibert from the Lindens

1915 Enlisted as Gunner Herbert Henry Cudlipp 183549 of the 38th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, British Expeditionary Force in France


During war he was a runner because fluent in French and English, took messages between lines


1918 June In hospital with gas poisoning?
1918 July

Photograph sent home with group photo, thanking sisters for book which had been forwarded from hospital.

1918 December Card and letter sent home with a Christmas letter
   
   

In 1919 he returned home exhausted physically and mentally, suffering from mustard gas. Was sent vraicking (gathering seaweed), and contracted pleurisy

Herbert is listed in The States of Jersey Military Roll of Honour, is recorded in St. Peter's church roll of honour and at St. John's congregational church.

His sister Florrie had to change her wedding plans for a large Jersey wedding and marry quietly in Reading.
Herbert’s fiancée, Laura, later became Mrs. Queree . She had a stepson but no children of her own.
