NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 21 July 1916

Roll of Honour. We regret to have to announce the death in action in France of Private Alphonsus Frank Dallain, eldest son of Mr & Mrs A F Dallain of Highlands, St Lawrence and Milburn House, First Tower. The deceased, who was 29, was an old pupil of Oxenford House School, St Lawrence. Previous to the war he was Head Clerk to a big firm of wholesale tobacconists in London. When war broke out he was travelling in Europe in the interests of his firm and, being in an enemy country was for several months prevented from returning. Eventually he was able to get back and some time ago he enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders. He was in the Island on a short visit about a month ago and must have gone to the Front soon afterwards. We tender our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
