NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 26 January 1916

Roll of Honour. The sad news has been received that Private Walter T de Caen of the Hampshire Regiment died on a homeward bound Hospital Ship on 15 December 1915 as a result of wounds received in Serbia and has been buried at sea. The gallant soldier, who was only 16, was the son of First Class Petty Officer Walter de Caen of HMS Birkenhead, he also had an uncle a First Class Petty Officer on HMS Indefatigable. Young de Caen was also a nephew of Mr F de Caen of Trinity and of Miss de Caen of 1 Belvedere Terrace, Bagot. We beg to tender our sincere condolences to the relatives in their sad bereavement.
