Second Lieutenant Horace William Elliott

Youngest son of Mr & Mrs Joseph Elliott of Le Chalet, Pontac, Jersey.

Killed in action. aged 36 years

NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 19 November 1917

Roll of Honour. News has just been received at Le Chalet, Pontac of the death of Mr & Mrs Elliott's youngest son, who was killed in action on 13 November in Palestine. 2nd Lieutenant H W Elliott was educated at Victoria College and upon leaving College he went out to South Africa and joined the Natal Mounted Police. He served through the Boer War and the Zulu Rebellion and when war broke out in Europe he went with the South African Army to German South West Africa. After the conquest of that colony he volunteered for service in Europe, came to England and was appointed, after training, 2nd Lieutenant to the 3rd Somerset Light Infantry and joined the 5th Somersets in Egypt. He was 36. The bereaved family have our sincere sympathy in their sorrow.
