NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 16 November 1914

Sergeant Fairs Killed in Action. We regret to state that news has been received that Sergeant Fairs of the East Surrey Regiment has been killed in action. The Sergeant who was married to a Jersey lady was very well known in this Island which he visited quite recently. He was a prominent footballer and referee whilst the Regiment was stationed here. He was also a member of the IOGT. To his widow and relatives we beg to offer our sincere sympathy in their sad bereavement.
