NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 14 April 1917

Roll of Honour. We regret to chronicle the death which has taken place in action of 2nd Lieutenant Fred Gibaut of the Canadian Infantry. The deceased gallant officer was a son of Mr Francis Moses Gibaut of Quebec, formerly of La Valette, Gorey, and brother-in-law of Mrs Gibaut (nee Jean) of Canada. He gave up a good position at the outbreak of war and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Before proceeding to the Front he was for some time an instructor at Aldershot and with his brother Joe, also of the Canadians, arrived here on leave last summer and stayed with Mr & Mrs Jean at Leoville, St Ouens. To the bereaved relatives in Jersey and Canada we tender our sincere sympathy.
