NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 8 June 1916

Roll of Honour. We regret to state that Mrs Gregory of Ann Street yesterday received a wire from the Admiralty stating that her son, Petty Officer Francis Gregory who was serving on HMS Black Prince was lost in the naval battle of Wednesday last. We feel sure that the family's natural grief is tempered somewhat by the fact that the sailor made the supreme sacrifice for his King and Country. The deceased sailor, who was in his 36th year, leaves a widow who resides in England.

A total of 26 Jerseymen are believed to have lost their lives in the Naval Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916 and on HMS Hampshire which sank on 5 June 1916 after striking a mine off the Orkneys.
