NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 14 September 1916

Jersey Soldier Wounded. The many friends of Rifleman H Gulliford of the Jersey Company Royal Irish Rifles will be sorry to hear that he has been admitted to hospital at Huddersfield suffering from trench feet and dysentery. We trust the gallant lad will rapidly recover.

Another Casualty in the Royal Irish Rifles. Rifleman H J Gulliford is at present at Royds Hall Military Hospital, Huddersfield having taken part in the recent big push. We wish the gallant lad a speedy recovery

Jersey Rifleman Missing. We regret to hear that Rifleman H Gulliford of the Jersey Company Royal Irish Rifles has been reported missing since 3 August. We trust that news will shortly be received of a reassuring nature.

Son of Mrs J Gulliford of Sweet Briar Cottage, Millbrook, Jersey. Initially reported as missing on 16th August 1917, later confirmed as killed on that date.

Killed in action, aged 27 years

A Missing Jersey Rifleman. The mother of Rifleman H Gulliford of the Jersey Company Royal Irish Rifles, reported missing on 16 August last, would be grateful if any member of the Jersey Company would send her further details of her son to Sweet Briar Cottage, Millbrook.

Roll of Honour. Yet another of the Jersey Company is presumed to have been killed in action. On 16 August last year Rifleman Harold J B Gulliford of the Jersey Company Royal Irish Rifles, was reported missing and his mother, Mrs Gulliford of Sweet Briar Cottage, Millbrook, has since then anxiously been awaiting news, unfortunately official notification has now been received that the soldier is presumed to have made the supreme sacrifice on the date mentioned above. We tender the mother and other members of the family our heartfelt condolences.
