NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 2 August 1916

Roll of Honour. No news had been received of Private Thomas Hall of the 9th Yorkshire Regiment for about four weeks and his mother, who resides at 40 Belmont Road, has now received the sad information from the officer commanding his Company that the soldier was killed in action on 5 July during an attack on the German trench known as the Horseshoe. The officer states that Private Hall, who was 20, was a thorough good soldier in every respect and will be greatly missed. The deceased had been at the Front for a year and previous to joining the Colours was for some 2 years in the employ of Mr H Randall of Clare Street. We offer his mother and the other members of the family our sincere sympathy.
