NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 1 October 1915

Roll of Honour - Another Jerseyman Killed. Mr & Mrs Lucas of Beaumont have, we understand, been officially informed of the death of their son Private J W Lucas of the Dorset Regiment. The deceased, who was 25, joined the Army shortly after the declaration of war and died of wounds received whilst in action in the Dardanelles. We offer our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family.

1914-15 Star

Born and enlisted at St. Helier, Jersey, the son of Francis Phillip and Mrs Lucas, of Beaumont and husband of Marie Rose Lucas, of 29 Columbus Street, St Helier, Jersey. He joined up shortly after the outbreak of war.

He was mortally wounded in Sulva Sector and evacuated to a hospital ship.

Died of wounds and buried at sea, aged 26 years.

The Late Private Lucas. Mrs Lucas of 29 Columbus Street, wife of Private Lucas of the Dorset Regiment whose death we announced yesterday, has received official notification stating that the deceased was badly wounded whilst serving in the trenches and died shortly after having been removed to the hospital ship. He was buried at sea.
