NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 18 October 1917

Roll of Honour. Mrs Marais of St Brelades has received the sad news that her son, W Marais who was serving in the Royal Naval Division, was instantaneously killed by a shell on 11 October and buried near Ypres. The late Private Marais was a splendid fellow and his comrades state that though they had only known him a short time he had endeared himself to all. We tender the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy.
