Born in the USA, RL Martin is currently commemorated in the MN Tower Hill Memorial, but a recent discovery by the "In from the Cold" Project showed that his remains were found floating in the sea of Corbiere in August 1915 and that he was buried in Jersey. He lost his life when the ship was engaged by a German submarine (U39) in an action that later saw the award of a VC to its master, Captain F Parslow.
