NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 20 March 1918

Roll of Honour. Yesterday we stated that the wife of Private Edward John McLeod of the Hampshire Regiment had received news that her husband was lying dangerously ill in France suffering from shell gas and we now chronicle with deep regret the fact that a telegram was received last evening stating that Private McLeod died on Friday last. The deceased, who was well known and highly respected was in his 42nd year and was formerly in the employ of the National Telephone Company. He was in the Island on leave only about 3 weeks ago. We tender the bereaved our heartfelt sympathy.
