NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 4 December 1914

St Peters Lad Killed at the Front. Mr & Mrs J T Michel of St Peters have received the sad news of the death of their third son Corporal Philip Michel of 1st Devonshire Regiment who was killed in action at Festubert on 30 October last. The deceased who was in his 22nd year enlisted in Jersey in 1912 and was promoted to the rank of Corporal shortly before the Devons left the Island, he was a most promising soldier and very popular with his comrades.

Roll of Honour. Mr & Mrs Michel of St Peters, whose son a Corporal in the Devon Regiment died recently from wounds received in action, have received the following letter from a friend of the late Corporal "Dear Mr & Mrs Michel I am very sorry to say your son was killed about 24 of last month. He was a chum of mine and I join with you in such a time of sorrow. We were very sorry to lose him and it upset us all, we were such chums, we being signallers together. Poor Phil he fought hard for his life but it was no good he being badly shot in the head, fortunately he did not suffer long and I join with you in your sorrow. I am sure you have lost a good boy. I conclude joining you in your sorrow and regret.

Brother of Mr A Michel of Daisy Farm, St Peter, Jersey.

Killed in action, aged 21 years.
