NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 17 May 1918

Roll of Honour. We regret to record the death which has taken place in action of Sergeant Edward J Murphy, fourth son of Mr & Mrs J Murphy of Albert Street. This young man was well known locally and joined the Munster Fusiliers some years ago. Since the outbreak of war he had for a considerable time been acting as instructor, both in England and France, and the official news has now been received that he made the supreme sacrifice at the opening of the offensive on 21 March. The deceased gallant Sergeant, who was 25, leaves a wife and child who reside in Ireland and to these, and the parents and family here, we tender our sincerest condolences.
