NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 3 March 1917

Roll of Honour. It is with the greatest regret we chronicle the death of Philip Noel AB, the eldest son of Mr Philip Noel of Fernley Lodge, Gorey Village and brother of Mrs Short of 27 Poonah Road. At the outbreak of war the deceased sailor was in the merchant service and promptly joined the Royal Navy. He was posted to the patrol yacht Verona and official intimation has now been received that the sailor is missing as a result of the sinking of the vessel on 24 February and in these circumstances it is feared he must be regarded as having lost his life. The late Philip Noel was 29 and unmarried and was in the Island last December on leave. The news of his death will be received with regret by scores of acquaintences and friends, who always found in the deceased a true friend and jovial companion.
