NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 15 July 1916

Roll of Honour. We have to announce the death in No 3 Casualty Clearing Station in the rear of the First Line of the British Expeditionary Force of Private W J Noel of the 1st Wiltshire Regiment. He was admitted to that hospital on 8 July suffering from severe shrapnel wounds in the back and chest and though everything possible was done for the patient by the nursing staff he passed away on Monday morning, a letter stating this having been received yesterday by his sister, Mrs Sampson of 16 Cannon Street. The news stated that Private Noel was conscious to the last and requested the Sister to write to his family telling them of his end, she adds that the interment was to be at a small military cemetery near the hospital and that he was to be accorded full Military Honours. To the members of the family of this brave young Jerseyman who has thus made the great sacrifice for his Country we would tender our sympathy in their bereavement.
