NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 3 December 1914

The Hardships of War - Jerseyman Wounded and Frostbitten. Mrs Ozard of 38 Pier Road today received a letter from Rev George H Colbeck, Chaplain to HM Forces, which was written from the 10th Stationary Hospital concerning her son, Private John Ozard of the 1st Gloucester Regiment. In it the writer says that Private Ozard has been a patient in this hospital for some days and in addition to being wounded is suffering from severe frostbite in the legs owing to the extreme cold in the trenches and that unfortunately it will be necessary for him to have one of his feet amputated. He is, continued the writer, very brave and patient. We offer our sincere sympathy to Mrs Ozard and hope that her son's recovery from his injuries will be speedy.

NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 10 December 1914

Roll of Honour. Unofficial news has been received by Mr & Mrs Ozard of 38 Pier Road that their son, Private John Ozard of the Gloucester Regiment, has died under an operation on about 30 November. The soldier, as we have stated previously, had been in the thick of the fighting and was wounded in three places. Too exhausted to move he lay in the trenches and was severely frostbitten in the legs and whilst one of these was being amputated it is thought that he succumbed. To the parents we offer our sincere condolences on the loss of their soldier son who has proved himself a gallant soldier and a brave Jerseyman
