NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Tuesday 25 February 1919

Young Jersey Soldier Dies in England. It is with deep regret we chronicle the fact that a young Jersey soldier, Private Alfred (Fred) Pallot of the 3rd Battalion Essex Regiment, eldest son of Mr Pallot of 61 Old Trinity Road, has died at Dovercourt in Essex after a brief illness. The deceased was in his 25th year and previous to joining the Royal Engineers served in D Company of the 3rd Battalion RMIJ, and was a highly respected employee in the Machinery Department at the Destructor. He was latter transferred to the Essex Regiment and, as stated above, has died and been buried in England. The deceased's Company Commander writing to the father states that the soldier was buried on Tuesday last with full Military Honours, the bearers being some of his special friends. He adds "I might say that your son bore a very good character in the Regiment and was very popular with all his comrades. He always did all his duties very willingly and was altogether a very good soldier". We offer the bereaved family our sincere condolences.
