NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 18 March 1918

Roll of Honour. We regret to state that news has been received in the Island that Air Mechanic Alfred Pierson of the Royal Flying Corps was instantaneously killed by a shell on 5 March. The deceased, who was 36, was formerly employed by Mr G Le Huquet the coal merchant. He resided in Columbus Street and joined up about 2 years ago. The officer of the Balloon Section of the Royal Flying Corps informing the family of the death wrote "He will be greatly missed in this section as he has always shown a keen and willing interest in his work and was very popular amongst his comrades, owing to his cheery disposition. As a mark of sympathy I enclose six guineas which has been subscribed by the officers and men and on whose behalf I tender you the deepest sympathy". We would add our own condolences to the bereaved in their sorrow.
