NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 14 September 1916

Roll of Honour. It is with deep regret we announce that another member of the gallant Jersey Company Royal Irish Rifles, Sergeant Arthur Pirouet, has made the supreme sacrifice. This soldier, who was 24, was formerly a Corporal in the East Battalion RMIJ and left the Island with the original overseas company. Of a cheerful disposition he made many friends and the officers of the Company have always spoken well of his capabilities as a soldier. He was the son of Mr & Mrs James Pirouet of Sea View, Samares who received the following letter from Canon Adderley informing them of their loss. The letter reads "36th Casualty Clearing Station, BEF France. 10 September 1916. Dear Mrs Pirouet, I am very sorry to have to tell you that your dear son, Sergeant A F Pirouet, passed away here yesterday. He was wounded on 5 September by a bullet in the back of the knee. I was speaking to him a short time before he died and he gave me your address to let you know he was wounded. We were hoping it would not prove fatal, but God has willed it otherwise, and they buried him this evening in Heilly Station Cemetery.
Please accept my deep sympathy in your sad loss.
Yours sincerely R A ADDERLEY, Canon".

We offer the family our sincere sympathy in their bereavement.
