NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 8 July 1918

Roll of Honour. In August last Private Fred Podger of the London Regiment, youngest son of Mr & Mrs G Podger of Woodbine House, Vallee des Vaux, was reported missing. For many months the parents have been anxiously awaiting news as to their son's fate and as the time slipped by this anxiety has naturally been increased. Unfortunately they have now received news that the soldier was killed in action on or about 16 August 1917. The late soldier, who was 38, was working in London and joined up in 1914, being amongst the first to answer the call of King and Country. We tender the bereaved parents who have lost a loyal and dutiful son our heartfelt sympathy.

At 8pm every evening, the Last Post is played inside the Menin Gate in remembrance.
