NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Tuesday 6 June 1916

The Naval Battle. The relatives of Petty Officer A W Reed, who was known to be serving on HMS Invincible have wired to the Admiralty, but the latter state that they have no news to give regarding the sailors fate. This Petty Officer had served 14 years in the Royal Navy. His mother, who resides in Columbus Street, has two other sons serving in the Army.

Roll of Honour. The relatives of Petty Officer A W Reed have today received news that the sailor was on HMS Invincible during the naval battle and is therefore presumed to have lost his life. We offer our sincere condolences to the mother and family.


A total of 26 Jerseymen are believed to have lost their lives in the Naval Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916 and on HMS Hampshire which sank on 6 June 1916 after striking a mine off the Orkneys.
