He has seen service in India, Egypt and the Near and Middle East and his death has resulted from wounds received whilst serving his King and Country. NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 29 October 1917

The Late Lance Corporal A Richards. Mrs Richards, mother of the late Lance Corporal Richards of the 1st Yorkshires whose death occurred on 8 September last, has received the following from the officer commanding the Company to which Richards belonged.

"Dear Mrs Richards, I am very sorry indeed to have to inform you that your son, gallant soldier that he was, died today. He was one of the very best Lance Corporal's in the Regiment, a keen soldier, always smart and willing to do his bit. He was liked by officers, NCOs and men and will be sadly missed. His death was instantaneous so he could not have been conscious of any pain. He had been ill in the plains but was cheerful to the last. Your son had a military funeral which was attended by most of the men available. He was buried in the Military Cemetery in the Murree Hills and we will see to it that a tombstone with suitable inscription is erected".
