NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 11 October 1918

Roll of Honour. We regret to chronicle the death which took place through shell fire in France on 2 October of Private Frederick Charles Roberts of the York & Lancaster Regiment. The deceased soldier, who was in his 34th year, was a native of St Martins and was formerly employed by Reverend C W Balleine of St Clements Rectory. He joined up about 18 months ago and had been in France since last March. The Captain in charge of the battery of the Regiment has written a most sympathetic letter to the wife, who resides at 3 Melbourne Place, Bagot, informing her of her sad loss. To the widow, nee Miss Blanche Laurens, who is left with three children, we offer our sincere sympathy.
