Notice of Death appears

NEWS
ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 24 May 1918
Roll of Honour. The very many friends
of Corporal Harry C Robinson of the Royal Garrison Artillery
will regret to hear that yesterday his parents, who reside
at 13 Garden Lane, received a letter from the Major of
their son's battery informing them that he had been killed
in action. This popular soldier was 25 and will be remembered
as being for 12 years employed by Mr H J Berry of Waterloo
Street, he was an Old National and also a well known member
of the Primitive Methodist Church and of the Jersey Mechanics
Institute, the flag of which is being flown at half-mast.
He had been in France some 8 months as a gun layer and
a most cheerful letter was received from him on Tuesday,
so that the shock to the parents on receiving the following
letter can be imagined. The letter reads "Dear
Mrs Robinson, I am very grieved to inform you of the death
of your son and I hope you will accept the sympathy of
myself and the men of the Battery. Your son is a loss
both to myself and to his Country and one which will be
very hard to replace. He was every inch a soldier and
a very brave and gallant man. He died at his gun and his
end was very quick, I do not think he suffered any pain.
I am sorry I cannot give you the name of the place where
he is buried, but if you write to the War Office they
will supply you with the information. We, his comrades,
again offer you our deepest sympathy.
I remain, Yours sincerely,
P WEEKS, Major RFA. BEF 19 May 1918".
All who knew the late highly respected Corporal
will join us when we tender the bereaved family our heartfelt
sympathy.
