HM Submarine E18

The wreck of a British naval submarine E18, lost for more than 90 years, has been found in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Estonia.

Son of Charles François & Eliza Jane Ruaux (nee Abraham) of St Martin's, Jersey. Husband of Clara Ruaux. A Naval regular.

Lost, aged 33 years, when E18 struck a German mine in the Baltic.



NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 21 June 1916

Roll of Honour. Official news has now been received that Leading Seaman E W Ruaux lost his life during the naval battle. This sailor who was on the Reserve, worked at Bashfords Vineries and joined up at the outbreak of hostilities. To his parents, who live at Plat Douet Road, we offer our sincere sympathy.
A total of 26 Jerseymen are believed to have lost their lives in the Naval Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916 and on HMS Hampshire which sank on 6 June 1916 after striking a mine off the Orkneys.
