Born in 1892 at Paramé, Ille-et-Vilaine, the son of Jules Marie Ruellan & Marguerite Marie Julie De Rivau.
Henri Ruellan was one of 18 children (15 living at the start of WW1.) Ten Ruellan brothers served in WW1 and 6 of them died. It is claimed that this is the largest number of French siblings to have died in military service from one
family.


Another brother Xavier also died ten years later due to health problems related to gas poisoning suffered in WW1.
