NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 20 April 1918

Roll of Honour. Mrs Smith of 2 Victoria Crescent has received from her husband, Major Smith, a telegram conveying the sad news of the death in action in France on 25 March last of their son, 2nd Lieutenant H T B (Bay) Smith of the Hussars attached to the Tank Corps. The deceased officer, who was only 20, passed out of Sandhurst last year, was gazetted in May and went to the Front in October, he was previously in the Navy.

Only son of Major & Mrs W H Smith of Victoria Crescent, St Helier, Jersey. Educated Victoria College & Royal Military College, Sandhurst.

Killed in action whilst in command of a group of machine guns near Albert. aged 20 years.
