NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 7 July 1919

Local Family's Double Bereavement. A few days ago we stated that Mr & Mrs W Smith of 26 Aquila Road had received the distressing news that one of their sons who had been missing for some months was presumed to have been killed and we now regret to chronicle the sad information that their eldest son, Bombardier William P Smith of the Royal Field Artillery who was taken prisoner after the gallant defence at Kut al Amara, is presumed to have died whilst in the hands of the Turks from 1 August 1916 to May 1918. The deceased, who was a most efficient and gallant soldier, was in his 25th year and highly popular with all ranks. We tender the bereaved family our sincere condolences in their sorrow.
