NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 25 April 1917

Roll of Honour. We regret to learn that Mrs Wyatt of 1 Val Plaisant has received information of the death of Private Cyril Sollett of the Dorset Regiment. This occurred on 22 July 1916 whilst he was a prisoner of war in the hands of the Turks, the cause of death being given as that dreaded disease beriberi (sleeping sickness) common to Eastern lands. The deceased who was an Old Boy of the Jersey Home for Boys at Gorey enlisted some 4 years ago and proceeded with his Battalion to Mesopotamia. He was with General Townshends force at Kut and was taken prisoner of war. Prior to this he was engaged as page boy by Miss Frost of Windsor Crescent and was very highly esteemed. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved in their trouble. We might add that this brings the number on the Jersey Home for Boys Roll of Honour up to 16, a record of which the school may well be proud.
