Killed, aged 17 years

 

Passenger steamer SS Galway Castle

U82 torpedoed the liner Galway Castle after leaving convoy OD123 in a torpedo attack off the Fastnet on the 12th. The ship was taken in tow by Woonda and Epic and later Cynic and Cartmel escorted by Allen (DD66), Caldwell (DD69) and Kimberley (DD80). The survivors were returned to Devonport in Oriana and Spitfire. Galway Castle sank on the 15th.
