1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment
15/10/1918

Second son of Captain E & Mrs Ellen Hamilton Toovey (nee Le Seelleur) of California. One of four brothers who served. Native of Jersey.

Served at Sanctuary Wood, the Somme and Vimy Ridge
Educated at Victoria College.

Died, aged 23 years, from pneumonia whilst a Prisoner of War in Frankfurt en Main.

For Gallantry and Good Work. The Commanding Officer of the Kings Own Regiment in publishing a second Roll of Honour for the Battle of Ypres expresses his high appreciation of the magnificent work done by the Battalion on 20 September 1917 and takes the opportunity of thanking all ranks most heartily for their cordial co-operation. Where all did so well it is most difficult to single names, but amongst others the name of 2nd Lieutenant K H Toovey has been brought to his notice for special gallantry and good work.

Seriously Ill. The many friends of Lieutenant Kennedy Toovey of the Kings Own Regiment, son of Lieutenant & Mrs Hamilton Toovey, who is a prisoner of war in Germany will regret to hear that he is lying seriously ill. We hope for favourable news in the near future.

Lieutenant Kennedy Toovey Dies in Germany. Some days ago we stated that 2nd Lieutenant Kennedy St C H Toovey, second son of Lieutenant & Mrs Hamilton Toovey, was reported seriously ill in Germany and it is with deep regret we now announce that Mrs Toovey has received a telegram stating that the gallant young officer died in hospital on 15 October. The late Lieutenant, who was an Old Victorian and one of four brothers serving their Country, was very popular locally and the news of his death in the land of the Hun will be received with great regret. We tender the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy.
