NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Tuesday 25 July 1916

Roll of Honour. The sympathy of all our readers will be extended to Mrs Vallois of 2 Beachleigh Lodge, Greve d'Azette who has just received the sad news that another of her loyal sons has made the supreme sacrifice for his King and Country. Some weeks ago it will be remembered that her second son, a Rifleman in the Jersey Company, died of wounds received in action and now the mother has been informed that her eldest son, Sergeant Frank L Vallois of the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers, died on 2 July of wounds received in the severe fighting recently. The late Sergeant had some 11 years service, 8 being spent in India. At the outbreak of war he was on the Reserve and promptly left the Island to rejoin the Colours. He took part in the historic retreat from Mons in which he had some exciting experiences, and, being wounded, was the first Jersey soldier to arrive here on sick leave, and we published an account of his experiences at the time. The gallant NCO was in the Island when the Jersey Company was being raised and did his utmost to induce others to go out and help the then "thin khaki line". One of the photographs taken at the quay showed him with his brother, both of whom have now given their lives on the field of honour. Shortly before leaving for the Front for the second time Sergeant Vallois was married in England. We tender the bereaved mother, widow and other members of the family our sincere condolences.

Sergeant F Vallois. We are informed that the late Sergeant F Vallois who died of wounds recently was unmarried. The mistake occurred owing to a soldier of the same name being married in London some time ago.
