NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 25 May 1917

Roll of Honour. We learn with regret that Private A H Warren, 2/8 London Regiment was killed in action on 16 May. The news was received by Mr & Mrs Warren, who reside in Clearview Street, yesterday. Showing the high esteem in which the young Jerseyman was held, not only the Major Commanding the Company but one of the Subaltern officers and a comrade of the deceased soldier wrote to the parents expressing sympathy, the letters stating that he was shot by an enemy sniper while he was on special duty and that he had been buried by his comrades where he fell the following day. Private Warren was well known in Jersey as he was for a number of years a telegraphic messenger at the GPO and obtained the rank of Acting Postman, subsequently being given a regular "walk" and before joining up 2 years ago he was delivering in the Gorey district. The young soldier, who was 22, had another brother serving while it will be remembered that still another brother, who was in the Royal Irish Rifles, also made the supreme sacrifice some little time ago. To the parents, thus for the second time bereaved during this cruel war, we tender our sincere sympathy.
