NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Monday 12 February 1917

Roll of Honour. Yet another Jerseyman, Private Henry William Wherry of the Dorset Regiment, who was taken prisoner by the Turks at Kut al Amara has died in the hands of the enemy owing to disease and the hardships sustained during the gallant defence of the town. The late Private Wherry was the only son of Mr Wherry of 7 Lempriere Street and was 24. He had served for some 6 years in the Army and died in September last from malaria, some five months after the surrender at Kut. The official intimation received states that the gallant soldier was buried at the Catholic Cemetery at Angora. We tender the bereaved family our sincerest sympathy.
