NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 28 May 1915

Jerseyman on the Ill Fated Princess Irene. Jerseymen have always been noted for their loyalty to the senior branch of His Majesty's service and practically every Naval disaster affects this Island. Serving on board the ill fated Princess Irene, which has been blown up at Sheerness, were at least two Jerseymen and it is feared that both these loyal lads have lost their lives. One was Petty Officer J Whitel, son of Mr & Mrs Whitel of The Parade. This gallant Jack Tar had been over 19 years in the Navy and was last in the Island in October. He leaves a widow who resides in England.
