Wounded and Missing. We regret to state that official
intimation has been received by Mrs Youlton that her son,
Lance Corporal Harry Youlton of the 7th Battalion Kings
Royal Rifles was wounded and has been missing since 30
August. This, it will be remembered, was the date of the
great Battle of Hooge at which the Rifles took so gallant
a part. Lance Corporal Youlton enlisted shortly after
the outbreak of war and has written many cheerful letters
from the fighting line, one of which appeared in these
columns. We sincerely hope that news will shortly be ......

Evening Post of Thursday 4 November 1915
Roll of Honour. On 29 July, during the heavy fighting
in Flanders, Lance Corporal Harry Youlton of the Kings
Royal Rifle Corps, who had enlisted only a few months
before from the Town Battalion, was reported wounded and
missing. His friends and family have been hoping ever
since that favourable news would be received but as time
went by and nothing was heard they began to fear the worst.
All doubts have now unfortunately been set at rest by
the receipt of the following letter by which it will be
seen that the gallant NCOs body was found and buried 3
months after his death. The many friends of Harry Youlton,
who was of a bright and jovial disposition, will regret
to hear the sad news but the family's grief we feel sure
is tempered by the fact that he died a true soldiers death.
The letter reads "Dear Madam, Allow me to express
my deepest sympathy to you on your son's death. His body
I found along with some more of his comrades who all fell
nobly defending their Country's honour. Hoping not to
reopen old wounds as you have not heard from him for so
long a period, but to set your mind at ease to know that
I buried him decently as a soldier and one of my comrades.
I remain yours respectfully, WILLIAM ARCHER (Private 7th
Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment B Company) PS: I enclose
his pay book as I see that your name is entered in his
Will, found on 29 October 1915."
